Updated.
Godzilla mashed with Being John Malkovich? That’s Colossal with Anne Hathaway as a woman named Gloria whose mental breakdown is strangely connected to a giant Lizard and a robot terrorizing Tokyo. No wonder the Godzilla rights-holders Toho took umbrage at the indie film and filed a copyright infringement claim. [Colossal has since changed it to a monster terrorizing Seoul, Korea, not Tokyo, Japan.]
Written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo., Colossal is a much smaller sci-fi movie (albeit with a big star) than blockbuster Godzilla, which filmed in metro Vancouver and on Vancouver Island during the spring of 2013. Jason Sudeikis (Saturday Night Live) is Gloria’s childhood friend grown up. And Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Night at the Museum) is her ex-fiance. The film co-stars Austin Stowell (Bridge of Spies) and Tim Blake Nelson.

Vancouver’s Brightlight Pictures has an agency deal and is executive producing the picture like it did with The 9th Life of Louis Drax and The Interview.
Colossal started filming today and has been spotted in Langley. It is expected to wrap at the end of November.
