Dan Stevens will play Charles Xavier’s son David Haller and the multiple-personality mutant Legion — whose hundreds of personalities have different powers — on the FX series filming in Vancouver. Noah Hawley chose troubled David Haller/Legion from the many super-human characters in the Marvel universe because he wanted to tell the story of an in-and-out-of-mental-institutions character who “doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not real”, according to TV Insider. Is David a schizophrenic with a mental illness or is he a mutant with powers? Both.

David Haller has one friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient who believes his visions could be real. And a therapist Melanie (Jean Smart) on his side.

Legion is set in an earlier time than the X-Men movie franchise before everyone in the world is aware of mutants, FX boss John Landgraf told the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena in January. Langraf said then that a writers room had already “beaten out” episodes for the first season, calling the scripts “extraordinary”. And sets are under construction.
The series from Hawley, Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory and John Cameron is expected to air on FX in 2016.
Filming of the pilot is expected to start March 9th and wrap April 4th (dates subject to change), according to the Directors Guild of Canada – BC production list. Production codename: Clubhouse.
