In a surprise twist, Bates Motel has cast pop star Rihanna as the iconic Marion Crane character from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho in the fifth and final season. Crane checks into the motel in Psycho and is killed by Norman Bates in the shower.
“We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way,” executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin said. “We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.”
Bates Motel is expected to start filming its fifth and final season this September in metro Vancouver.
