Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is premiering on BBC America right now. The filmed-in-Vancouver 8-episode comedic detective series — inspired by the cult novel by Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams — is set in Seattle with Samuel Bennett (Jupiter Ascending) as the eccentric detective and Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) as his loner assistant Todd. Together they investigate seemingly unrelated cases which turn out to be connected to a larger supernatural mystery.
Other cast includes Neil Brown Jr. (Straight Outta Compton) as missing persons detective Esteve and Richard Schiff (The West Wing) as missing persons detective Zimmerfield; Miguel Sandoval as Colonel Scott Riggins and Dustin Milligan as Sgt. Hugo Friedkin, who investigate the paranormal from a secret bureau; Fiona Dourif as Holistic Assassin Bart Curlish; Michael Eklund as Martin, leader of the Rowdy Boys.
The Rowdy Boys — Michael Eklund, Viv Leacock, Zak Santiago and Ostric Chau — photographed at Ladner’s North 40 Dog Park.
Plus Jade Eschete as Farah Black, security officer to a billionaire. Pho Koaho as Ken, a tech; and Aaron Douglas as a mysterious loser Gordon Rimmer.
Max Landis wrote the 8-episode series, and Dean Parisot directed the first two episodes with Robert Cooper (Stargate) as showrunner.
