GOING SOUTH: LUCIFER & LEGION Leaving Vancouver to Film in Los Angeles With $28 Million in California Tax Incentives

FOX’s Devil-leaves-Hell-for-LA Lucifer and FX’s head-tripping Marvel series Legion are both moving production from Vancouver to Los Angeles.

Lucifer — with Tom Ellis as the charming Devil — is about the Lord of Hell decamping from boring, old Hell to a more exciting life in L.A.

Noah Hawley’s recently-renewed Marvel series features Dan Stevens (Beauty & the Beast) as the troubled David Haller, a multiple-personality mutant who believes he’s mentally ill.

The California Film Commission announced today that Lucifer will get almost $17 million in tax incentives to relocate its third season to L.A.and Legion will get $11 million to relocate its second season to L.A., out of almost $100 million available, according to Deadline Hollywood.

The news about Lucifer broke a few weeks ago.

Lucifer in Vancouver.

Lucifer filmed its pilot in Los Angeles and then moved north to film its first and second seasons in Vancouver.

Other characters: Lesley-Ann Brandt as Lucifer devotee Maze; D.B. Woodside as Lucifer’s brother Amendiel; Kevin Alejandro as L.A.P.D. detective and Chloe’s ex; and scene stealer Rachael Harris as his therapist.

In season 2, Lucifer’s Mom Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) escaped Hell, found a hot new body as her vessel and plagued her son and his brother Amenadiel (DB Woodside) . “We were on a search for someone who could make her sons as uncomfortable as possible. I think we succeeded here,” one of the producers told the TCA summer press tour.

Lucifer wraps its second season of filming in Vancouver around April 6th and starts filming its third on June 20th in Los Angeles.

Legion in Vancouver.

Legion, which takes place mostly in David’s mind, filmed its 8-episode first season in metro Vancouver last year. I saw a key sequence for the premiere filmed on the Main Mall at the University of British Columbia campus with Dan Stevens on set.
