Based on a true story from This American Life podcast, American Dreamer follows a low-level Harvard professor of economics Dr. Phil Loder (Peter Dinklage), whose dream of owning a home is out of reach until a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity comes his way when a lonely, near-death widow Astrid Fanelli (Shirley MacLaine) offers Phil her estate for pennies. But Phil quickly finds ou the deal is too good to be true.
