Based on a true story from This American Life podcast, American Dreamer follows a low-level professor of economics (Peter Dinklage), whose dream of owning a home is out of reach until a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity comes his way when a lonely, near-death widow (Shirley MacLaine) offers him her estate for pennies. But Phil quickly finds ou the deal is too good to be true.

Peter Dinklage is the low-level professor of economics.
Shirley Maclean is the widow who offers him her estate for pennies.
Kimberly Quinn is the widow’s daughter.
Danny Glover is the private investigator tailing the widow’s daughter, who intends to evict the professor from her mother’s property.
Matt Dillon is the professor’s real estate agent and reluctant companion
Danny Pudi is the Dean of Economics at the University and the professor’s boss, who is forced to spend him over his affair with a graduate student.
Michelle Mylett is the graduate student he has the affair with.
