Atom Egoyan’s Opera-Inspired SEVEN VEILS With Amanda Seyfried to Premiere at TIFF

Canadian director Atom Egoyan’s opera-inspired Seven Veils, starring Amanda Seyfried as a tortured theatre director, gets its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 10th.

Earnest theatre director Jeanine (Amanda Seyfried) has been given the task of remounting her former mentor’s most famous work, the opera Salome. Haunted by dark and disturbing memories from her past, Jeanine allows her repressed trauma to colour the present as she re-enters the opera world after so many years away.

Filmed in Toronto last winter, Seven Veils features the Canadian Opera Company’s Ambur Braid as Salome and Michael Kupfer-Radecky as John the Baptist from its most recent production of Salome, also directed by Atom Egoyan.

I first produced Salome for the Canadian Opera Company almost thirty years ago and have been haunted by its themes. This is a project I’ve been dreaming about for years and it’s such a thrill to be reunited with Amanda after the amazing experience we had together making Chloe. — Atom Egoyan.to Variety.
