BC Nominated as Outstanding Film Commission for THE LAST OF US Season 2 Locations

Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us used 60 to 70 British Columbia (and some Alberta) locations plus production builds and VFX to create the walled community of Jackson, Wyoming and the overgrown ruins of post-apocalyptic Seattle.

The Last of Us cast and crew travelled all over British Columbia from Langley to Mission to Kamloops to Whistler to downtown Vancouver to Nanaimo and many points in between.

The Location Managers Guild International has nominated season 2 of The Last of Us for Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary Television Series and the British Columbia Film Commission and Creative BC for Outstanding Film Commission at the 12th annual LMGI Awards.,

Season One of The Last of Us won both awards:

At the 10th annual LMGI Awards., The Last of Us season one location managers Jason Nolan and Mohammad Qazzaz won the award for Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary Series; and Calgary Economic Development and the Alberta Film Commission won for Outstanding Film Commission.

Nanaimo as Seattle’s Capitol Hill beighbourhood.

We were going to shoot in Gastown, but it’s super touristy and busy. So we ended up going to a little town called Nanaimo, which is a 20-minute float plane ride from Vancouver. There’s a beautiful strip of old, appropriate buildings and we were able to take over. They allowed us to strip out all the storefronts and break windows and change awnings. We brought in all the [plants]. — production designer Don Macaulay.

The Last of Us Season 2:

Season 2 picks up five years after the events of season one, which chronicled Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey)’s trek across a post-apocalyptic, pandemic-scarred America..
