Computer hacker and beloved Queen of Moondoor Charlie Bradbury (Felicia Day) returns to Supernatural for the third time (second time this season) in the upcoming Pac-Man Fever. She brings a case to Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) to investigate. Not much is known about episode twenty yet, but crew did film scenes on Wednesday night of Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Charlie (Felicia Day) inside the Impala surrounded by food trucks at east Vancouver’s Hastings Community Centre.
Fans at the night shoot congratulated the crew on Supernatural’s viral Harlem Shake video, now approaching 2 million views on YouTube in just a couple of days. [over 10 million by season’s wrap]
Are we ready for a female version of Tony Soprano (The Sopranos) or Walter White (Breaking Bad) on American broadcast TV? Red Widow is about San Francisco widow Marta Walraven (Radha Mitchell) forced to replace her husband in the Russian mob after his murder in order to repay his debt and protect her family — son Gabriel (Sterling Beaumon),daughter Natalie (Erin Moriarty) and son Boris (Jakob Salvati).
Her husband was killed by the mafia. In order to erase a [$1.5 million] debt and protect her family, she is willing to work with his killers. How far would you go? For one mother, the only way out is deeper in. No time to mourn.
That debt is owed to crime lord Nicholae Schiller (Goran Visnjic). “I don’t play games Mrs. Walraven. Ever.” – Schiller
By the end of the first set of eight episodes, Marta Walraven won’t be as bad as Tony Soprano or Walter White but she will have gone from packing lunches to packing guns — with room to go darker.
One Valentine’s night. Three shoots. Vancouver production crews worked late into the night on Valentine’s Day to film scenes for TV series Supernatural, Arrow and Vancouver’s own Continuum in the downtown area. I looped around from Supernatural on Station Street beside Pacific Central Station to Arrow on Franklin Street near the Terminal City Ironworks complex to Continuum at the Plaza of Nations and back again to capture our crews at work.
Supernatural crew worked inside and outside the Ivanhoe Hotel at the rear on Station Street, not packing up until 2 a.m. One exterior scene had Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) arriving at the motorhome below and possibly loading a prop dead body into the trunk of a car. Arrow set up on Franklin Street either in or near the Terminal City Ironworks complex in east Vancouver to film motorcycle scenes in the morning, Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson) in a rooftop meeting and much later, someone shooting arrows into a black town car. Wonder who? Arrow ran late so probably packed up past its scheduled 2 a.m. departure.. Continuum’s crew started early too at the Plaza of Nations on the dock to film scenes aboard Kellogg (Vancouver actor Stephen Lobo)’s yacht (Adriana), then moved inside their Vancouver police station set with background performers and back outside for night scenes aboard Kellogg’s yacht and a steadicam scene of mad time traveller Jason (Vancouver actor Ian Tracey).
Our crews work up to sixteen hours a day five days a week to bring scripts to life in all kinds of weather. Mostly cold and wet. Those lucky enough to still have jobs don’t have enough time to see their loved ones on Valentine’s Day far less watch the shows they work on. So no, these aren’t “Hollywood jobs”, but they are good well-paid ones. And they’re leaving for Toronto because of Ontario’s superior tax credits. As a result, Vancouver lost its bragging rights as North America’s third biggest film and TV production centre to Toronto (after Los Angeles and New York). And lately, it’s gone from bad to worse. British Columbia’s third biggest industry, generating over $1 billion, faced unprecedented unemployment last month. Read More »BIG READ: Vancouver Film Crews at Work – #SaveBCFilm
Sunday, October 28th – City sitcom Package Deal with Hartland Williams, Julia Voth, Jay Malone and Randal Edwards tapes in front of a live studio audience in Burnaby.
Inspired by a popular Dutch TV show, midseason ABC series Red Widow is about a San Francisco mobster’s widow, Marta Walraven, forced to replace her husband as head of a crime syndicate after his murder. She does this to protect her three children, two of whom were in a scene with her at the Terminal City Ironworks compound in east Vancouver yesterday. The eldest son Gabriel ( Sterling Beaumon) called down to his mother Marta (Radha Mitchell) and younger brother Boris (Jakob Salvati) from the roof of one of the buildings dressed as Keller’s Hardware.
It appeared to be the last exterior scene before production moved inside the compound for a long night shoot.
Upcoming midseason CW series Cult has been filming inside the old Terminal City Ironworks complex for a couple of days, but unexpectedly emerged yesterday afternoon for a big scene with Matt Davis and Jessica Lucas near the Hastings Overpass and BC Sugar in east Vancouver. All I could tell from a distance is that it involved people running, simulated gunfire, a culprit being nabbed and some yelling.
Matt Davis (The Vampire Diaries) stars as Jeff an investigative journalist searching for his brother whose disappearance may be linked to the fans of a horror TV series called Cult recreating what they’ve seen on the show. Jeff enlists the help of Jessica Lucas’s production assistant from the show-within-a-show. “When the line between the imagined and reality is broken” is the meta tagline.
Santa Barbara senior detective Carleton “Lassie” Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) fell in love in season six of Psych in what seemed to be a doomed relationship with Marlowe Viccelli (Kristy Swanson), a woman who is sent to prison for stealing blood for her brother — “My dear Marlowe. I will wait for you these six to eighteen months. See you next Wednesday,” Carleton vowed.
Marlowe is played by the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Kristy Swanson. She has been spotted in Vancouver filming two episodes of season seven of Psych so far. The first one at the Burnaby Youth Detention Centre, meaning she’s probably still in jail. And the second one last week at the River Rock Casino in Richmond, where people saw Shawn “Psychic” Spencer (James Roday), his BFF Burton “Gus” Guster (Dule Hill) and Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) wearing tuxes. Is this for a Carleton-Marlowe wedding? Earlier in the week, I found Psych filming inside the Speakeasy Sports Bar on Broadway (bachelor party?) and then last Friday night at a school in east Vancouver dressed as the Santa Ynez Police Department with an American flag on the flag pole. Out of the Phat Cat Limousine Bus with the back sticker — Carleton and Marlowe: Last Fling Before the Ring! — trooped Roday, Hill and Omundson with an unindentified guest star in hand cuffs. No Swanson in sight. This being Psych anything could happen, but it warms my heart that Lassiter stayed true to Marlowe for at least six to eighteen months.
