Today’s shoot was at the University of British Columbia’s CHEM building dressed as the Santa Barbara University’s Faculty of Sciences, with Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and BFF Burton “Gus” Guster (Dule Hill) talking to someone outside the convention. The next scene was the guy in the suit below being escorted out. Is he someone I should know Psych-Os? Update: It’s Vincent Ventresca, aka The Invisible Man.

SHOOT: Mira Sorvino on PSYCH Set in East Vancouver

So that was Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino filming Psych as a Santa Barbara Police Department detective last Thursday afternoon at Terra Pita Place in east Vancouver. According to TV Line, she’s the new head detective Betsy Brannigan and a mix of sweet and badass. In other words: “a scrapbooking, cat loving, crime-fighting machine.” Sounds like a good fit for the Psych gang.

SHOOT: PSYCH’s Dule Hill & James Roday Talk Smack to Tom Arnold in East Vancouver

Updated: Tom Arnold plays paranormal police consultant Garth Mathers, who has a ghost sidekick Bernie.

Fake psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his BFF Burton “Gus” Guster (Dule Hill) spent early Thurday afternoon talking smack to [paranormal police consultant Garth Mathers (Tom Arnold)] outside historic Terra Vita Place on Cassiar Street, dressed like the Santa Barbara Police Department. The now high-end condo complex is a redevelopment of the 1914 Industrial Home for Girls, a heritage building that would not look out of place in southern California.

Shawn and Gus taunt [Garth Mathers], standing on the circular driveway below with Santa Barbara police detective Carlton “Lassie” Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) and [new head detective Betsy Brannigan (Mira Sorvino)]. The smackdown goes on for a while until Shawn slides down the railing  leaving Gus to grind and kick like a  male stripper as [Mathers] passes him on the stairs. A large hedge hid most of the action but it appeared that “acclaimed director James Roday” (Mr. Yin Presents… Heeeeere’s Lassie) is directing this season eight episode, including his own stunt slide.

CONTEST: PSYCH-Os Vote for One of Three Possible Season 8 Episodes. Winner Announced at Comic-Con – Updated

Update: Filming of Psych season 8 in Vancouver extended to August 23rd.

How could Psych-Os not vote for the “Food Truck” storyline in the season 8 episode contest for fans? Snacks are so important to Shawn and Gus (James Roday and Dulé Hill below). Can you imagine the shenanigans if these two have their own food truck full of snacks when they go undercover to solve the mystery of a murdered Santa Barbara food truck owner?  The USA network officially ordered two more episodes of Psych today for a total of ten in what is likely the final season  — one greenlit by the network from five additional scripts and the other to be voted on by fans from three possible storylines below. Start voting tomorrow: Psych Season 8 Viewers Choice.
  • FOOD TRUCK – When the well-known owner of a beloved Santa Barbara food truck is mysteriously murdered, Shawn and Gus, fans of delicious flavor, are determined to solve the crime as only they can. They go undercover as proprietors of the PSYCH Naptime Food Truck, and soon discover that the high-profit world of Santa Barbara’s mobile food business is cutthroat, insular and a place of many secrets – many of them worth killing for.

  • TELETHON – In a classic “How-dunnit” case with a PSYCH twist, Shawn and Gus investigate a murder that Shawn is convinced was committed by the beloved host of Santa Barbara’s annual Children’s Hospital Telethon. There’s only one problem – the host was seen by hundreds of thousands of people on live television during the exact time the murder occurred elsewhere. Can Shawn steal the show, poke a hole in this rock-solid alibi, and prove the host did it?
