What is The Undertaking? We’ll find out more in some Starling City flashbacks on tomorrow night’s Arrow. After the death of his wife in The Glades, did Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) plot with Robert Queen (Jamey Sheridan) to destroy the ghetto?

Arrow filmed other Starling City flashback scenes on the docks of Harbour Cruises & Events in Coal Harbour. Are we going to see Robert Queen and his son Oliver (Stephen Amell) depart on their fateful voyage aboard the family yacht, Queen’s Gambit? That would explain Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson)’s presence on set. And why Laurel (Katie Cassidy) seems to be kissing her beloved Ollie goodbye for three weeks that will turn into five years.

Meanwhile, in present-day Starling City, Oliver turns to IT gal Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) for help with his vigilante mission. Here she is looking very not-IT-gal in a striking red dress on the gaming floor of Hastings Park race track.

Of course something goes wrong and Oliver’s vigilante alter-ego The Hood has to fight to save Felicity from an armed gunman, wrecking the casino in the process.

SHOOT: Stephen Amell & Katie Cassidy Do ARROW Flashbacks in Coal Harbour for 1×21 – Updated

Why are Oliver Queen & Laurel Lance kissing? It’s flashback time in the [third-to-last} episode of Arrow’s hit first season. I hope this isn’t Laurel (Katie Cassidy) saying goodbye to her Ollie (Stephen Amell) before he heads off on the Queen’s Gambit with his Dad and Laurel’s sister. Was younger Oliver really such a cad?

Update: Yes he was. Oliver makes a call to Laurel’s sister Sarah when he spots Laurel – “Hey Sarah. You here? You might want to circle around the block a few times. Your sister just showed up.”

SHOOT: ARROW’s Paul Blackthorne & Colton Haynes Film on The Pier in North Vancouver for 1×20 – Updated

Arrow filmed late night scenes on the Burrard Dry Dock Pier in North Vancouver’s historic Versatile Shipyards park last night. Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), the Starling City cop obsessed with bringing the vigilante Hood to justice, speeds to [the Starling City Port] to apprehend Roy Harper (Colton Haynes)  [and his stolen police radio]. After the shoot wrapped sometime after midnight, one hardy fan got a photo with Paul Blackthorne taken by Colton Haynes. Good timing? You bet.

Production had been inside the Pinnacle Hotel for much of the evening [filming David Ramsey (John Diggle)], who then headed out to join fellow cast Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/the Hood), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance), Susanna Thompson (Moira Queen) and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg in Los Angeles for Arrow’s PaleyFest panel. The livestream begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Click here for link.

PROMOS: ARROW 1×13 Betrayal Promo Images – Updated

David Anders (Once Upon a Time and Alias) is the next cult guest star to drop by Arrow. We’ll meet him next Wednesday night as infamous Starling City criminal Cyrus Vanch, who plans to take on Stephen Amell’s The Hood to re-establish his reputation as a leading crime lord. Something tells me it won’t work out.

But the theme of the episode is betrayal and there seems to be plenty of that to go around. In the Island flashbacks, Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen meets Manu Bennett’s man-behind-the-Deathstroke-mask who claims there are two masks..

Flash forward to Starling City where the major betrayals are parental. Katie Cassidy’s Laurel is betrayed by her father who uses her as bait to capture The Hood, filmed in the rain on top of the Bentall parkade in front of a gaggle of visiting American TV journalists. Afterward Laurel angrily tells Colin Donnell’s Tommy about it but he’s not thrilled she kept her meetings with The Hood secret from him.

PROMOS: ARROW 1×10 Burned Promo Images – Updated

So how did Stephen Amell end up on so many Best-of-2012 lists? Yes, Arrow is a huge hit for The CW but it wasn’t the Vancouver-filmed show that got so many mentions. It was Amell’s abs, especially as displayed in the famous salmon ladder scene of the pilot. Entertainment Weekly paid tribute to Amell’s six-pack when they named him a Breakout Star of 2012. Amell confessed to the magazine that he wasn’t “ripped” before landing his star-making role but used Brad Pitt’s physical transformation for Troy as his inspiration to become the hooded vigilante.

Perhaps Amell’s abs will be on screen again on Wednesday, January 16th, in Arrow’s tenth episode called Burned. [Update: May be no abs in this episode since Amell’s Oliver Queen is thinking of hanging up his hood for good after being beaten by the Dark Archer. That is, until Laurel asks for his help investigating  the suspicious death of a firefighter.]

Here’s the logline:

Oliver goes up against an injured firefighter who, psychologically traumatized, has decided to take revenge on Starling City by commiting acts of arson while calling himself Firefly.

And the promo images featuring Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen, Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance and guest star Andrew Dunbar’s Firefly.
