SHOOT: Norma & Deputy Sheriff Shelby Hook Up at BATES MOTEL in Aldergrove for 1×04

Bates Motel has been renewed for a second season.

The one and only time I visited the 12-room motel and gothic house set in Aldergrove last year happened to be the day that Bates Motel filmed Norma’s estranged son Dylan catching her and Deputy Sheriff Zach Shelby coming out of a motel room after a steamy hookup. Since my visit was four months before the show’s premiere, I didn’t know what I was seeing. Now I realize that the motorcycle parked near the motel office belongs to Dylan (Max Thieriot) and the black jeep in the parking lot to Deputy Sheriff Zach Shelby (Mike Vogel). And if I’d got there earlier I might have seen Norma (Vera Farmiga) on set too. Or perhaps she was in the motel room when Mike Vogel came out during a break in filming, crossed the street and walked past me to grab something from the craft tent. Do you remember that scene of Norma and Zach coming out of the motel room from last week’s Trust Me?

Dylan: Hello there Norma. How are those new linens working out for you?

Norma turns to Zach and says: This is my son Dylan. And this is Zack Shelby.

Awkward silence.

Norma: Umm I’m gonna go get my car….

Shelby coolly walks to his black jeep, turns on the ignition and drives away as Dylan smokes and stares from a plastic green chair.

BIG READ: Hitchcockian BATES MOTEL Debuts on A&E Tonight

Published March 18, 2013 on Vancouver is Awesome.

The Bates Motel set out in Aldergrove on 272nd Street is the spitting image of the 12-room Seafarer motel and Gothic house set from Alfred Hitchcock’s horror classic Psycho, except for the missing top of the Bates house which was CGIed in post-production for tonight’s premiere on A&E.  This contemporary prequel  focuses on a younger version of Psycho movie killer Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) in a coastal Oregon town called White Pine Bay and explores his relationship with his unhinged mother (Vera Farmiga) as he approaches his evil destiny. Is this the relationship that turns Norman into a killer who stuffed his mother?

On Friday, A&E shared a creepy new poster and teaser with Entertainment Weekly’s Inside TV. In the Motherly Love teaser, the camera slowly zooms in like a voyeur on teenage Norman (Freddie Highmore) and his possessive mother Norma (Vera Farigma) sitting side-by-side on a bed. You want to scream, Get a Room!, except they’re already in one and this is a mother and son. Is this the relationship which turns young Norman into the killer who stuffed his mother in the classic Alfred Hitchcock horror film? BATES MOTEL Opens for Business on March 18th on A&E

Contemporary Psycho prequel series Bates Motel is back filming on its spooky Psycho replica motel and house set in Aldergrove today, a motel that officially opens for business on March 18th.
A&E announced the premiere date last Friday ahead of a Bates Motel-themed luncheon and panel at the Winter Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in Pasadena. The 10-episode serialized season, which wraps filming in Vancouver late this month, is a present-day reimagining of the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock horror classic Psycho not a homage, showrunner Carleton Cuse told critics. This psychological thriller focuses on Freddie Highmore’s teenage version of future serial killer Norman Bates. living in present-day White Pine Bay, Oregon, and explores the dark backstory of  his relationship with his unhinged mother, Vera Farmiga’s Norma Bates, as he approaches his evil destiny.  Or “How I Stuffed My Mother”, as Daniel Fienberg from HitFix.com reportedly joked in the session.
