Saturday, September 29th – Continuum showrunner Simon Barry moderates Creating Sci-fi Worlds panel featuring Once Upon a Time‘s Jane Espenson and Eureka‘s Amy Berg at the VIFF forum sponsored by Rogers
Friday, September 28th – Fringe’s fifth and final season premieres on FOX in the U.S. and Citytv in Canada with utopian Fringe family scenes filmed in Stanley Park and dystopian scenes filmed on gravel lot next to the Olympic Village.

It’s been almost six months since I saw Emily Owens M.D. film scenes for its pilot at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre of its star Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter) walking in and out the front doors as Emily, a social nerd and surgical intern who finds life at Denver Memorial Hospital a lot like high school. Gummer returned yesterday in the autumn sunshine to film scenes of Emily picking up juice at a juice bar by the main entrance, with a prop Denver Memorial ambulance parked out front and lot of background performers milling about.

This Emily doesn’t look anywhere near as frazzled as she does in the show poster — Practicing Medicine. Working on Life.

If you’ve seen any of the teasers or trailers for upcoming The CW hospital drama series Emily Owens, M.D., then you’ll know that social nerd Emily Owens (Mamie Gummer) has conversations with her younger high school self through a chain link fence. I’ve seen the hospital side of these conversations at the University of British Columbia’s Irving K. Barber Learning Centre made to look like Denver Memorial Hospital. And today I hoped to catch the school side of these conversations at Lord Byng High School made to look like Robert H. Johnson High School. But mis-timed it. Here’s the set. Students at the University of British Columbia did a double take last Friday entering their Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, which had suddenly been renamed Denver Memorial Hospital in preparation for Saturday’s shoot. It featured Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter) filming some scenes for The CW’s hospital drama pilot Emily Owens, M.D. (formerly First Cut).
