SHOOT: Anna Torv as Fauxlivia & Rowan Longworth as “The Boy” in Coal Harbour for FRINGE 5×12 Liberty

Olivia (Anna Torv) has crossed over to the alternate universe in 2036, using a mega-dose of cortexiphan, to ask an aged Fauxlivia (also Anna Torv) for her help in the plan to rescue “the boy” from a heavily-guarded Observer detention camp on Liberty Island in our universe. Crossing back and forth between universes on the Island, Olivia succeeds in retrieving Michael before dissection and the Liv dopplegangers bring him back on a launch to Battery Park, actually Coal Harbour in downtown Vancouver, where the rest of the Fringe team waits in the blueverse.

THANK YOU FRINGENUITY — You Made a Difference

“Fringe is a story about love strong enough to break the world, and strong enough to heal it.”

That’s the quote inside the Thank You cards given by the Frinegnity team to Fringe cast, crew and others who made a difference to their show. And we should be thanking them. After all, when Fringe was in danger of not being renewed for this fifth and final season, it was Fringenuity who organized thousands of fans around the world to fight for it through Friday night Twitter and Get Glue campaigns. And it worked. On this final Fringe Friday, let’s pay tribute to them. They made an incalculable difference: Annie, @birdandbear; Aimee, @aimeeinchains; Kelly, @fringeship; Emma @dalliel; Cheri @cheribot, and Tas, @tribeoftyrones plus special ops Nikolai, @nikolai3d  and Sarah, @sarahproost, and  the operatives on location in Vancouver who picked up the Thank You packages and distributed them, getting hugs from crew: Lyn, @runpaceyrun and Michelle.

FRINGE’s Joshua Jackson & John Noble Have Fun in the West End Rain for 5×11, Part One of Series Finale

John Noble and Joshua Jackson had a lot of fun filming a father-and-son scene for the third to last episode of Fringe — The Boy Must Live — six weeks ago in the pouring rain of Vancouver’s West End.

[Update: Here’s a FOX video of the father-and-son scene Although we saw it filmed with many camera setups, we didn’t hear what they were saying. Be warned there are more spoilers, but these are ones FOX chose to share]

John Noble’s Dr.Walter Bishop runs out of an alley onto Bute Street where Jackson’s Peter Bishop catches up with him. They have a long talk and then embrace in a big hug.

And Now For Something Completely Different on FRINGE for 5×09 – Dr. Carla Warren & Monty Python – Updated

I withheld photos of Jenni Blong as Dr. Carla Warren filming with John Noble’s Dr. Walter Bishop inside a prop New York taxicab opposite the Guiness Tower downtown in late October. Partly because her reappearance was a spoiler but also because I couldn’t figure out how she could possibly be alive in 2036. I should have known that Fringe’s final season wouldn’t be complete without Walter on an acid trip.

“I represent everything that you’re trying to keep buried,” she told him last night in an ongoing hallucination. After all, Dr. Warren is the one in the original timeline who tried and failed to convince Walter not to cross over to the alternate universe to save the other young Peter Bishop who was dying like his own son had. And her death in a lab explosion led to Walter being incarerated for manslaughter in the St. Claire’s mental institution where we met him in the series premiere. On a lighter note, Gene the cow also featured in Walter`s hallucinations during the show’s animated homage to Monty Python. Walter`s wild acid trips are one of the many things I will miss about Fringe.

SHOOT: FRINGE Films in NYC Taxi in Downtown Vancouver for Ep. 5×09

As streets began flooding in the real Manhattan yesterday morning and the east coast braced for Hurricane Sandy’s full impact, Fringe filmed scenes in a NYC taxicab in cloudy, wet Vancouver dressed as Manhattan under Observer Occupation in 2036. It sure put our rain in perspective.

I didn’t find the set until close to lunchtime and not long after Fringe wrapped and returned to studio for the rest of the day, so I don’t know if there were scenes other than John Noble’s Walter in the cab along with an unexpected guest star from seasons earlier. I won’t spoil the identity of that guest star until the producers choose to, because one of the joys of the final season is the way Fringe brings back or echoes former cases and characters. After the guest star wrapped, a Flex star car picked up her and Jasika Nicole’s Astrid, who must have been in that very crowded cab as well. I can’t imagine the risk they took talking in a cab with all those background Observers and Loyalist soldiers walking past. And on one of the background cabs driving by — a Reward Wire rooftop ad. Remember the creepy-good Captain Windmark-voiced Fringe teaser, Wanted: Peter Bishop, ahead of the season premiere?
