How did Tim Burton keep a straight face directing this Big Eyes scene? Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz), owner of the now more-successful Keane Gallery, taunts the rival gallery owner (Jason Schwartzman) across the street (Powell Street in Gastown) in San Francisco’s North Beach art district, circa 1960s. Burton cued the vintage cars and the actors like the conductor of an orchestra. Watching Waltz’s facial expressions and gestures proved the Oscar winner’s worthiness to host Saturday Night Live. The man has serious comic skills. And Jason Schwartzman, on the other side, was no slouch either.
