SHOOT: WAYWARD PINES Films Matt Dillon on its Agassiz Set

M. Night Shyamalan’s FOX event series Wayward Pines returned to film on its block-long set on Pioneer Street in Agassiz this week. Like A&E’s Bates Motel, the upcoming 10-episode series is a cross between Twin Peaks and The X-Files. Secret service agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) comes to Wayward Pines, Idaho, to investigate the disappearance of two federal agents, one of whom is his former Secret Service partner Kate Hewson (Carla Gugino) who almost broke up his marriage. When an accidents puts him in hospital with no identification or cell phone, he is cared for by a nurse (Melissa Leo) and treated by a psychiatrist (Toby Jones). Eventually his wife (Shannyn Sossamon) and son (Charlie Tahan) come to Wayward Pines to find out what happened. Other Wayward Pines residents include Sheriff Pope (Terence Howard) and town bartender Beverly (Juliette Lewis). Will Burke ever leave?

Not yet. An unbloodied Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) was back on set Friday at the beginning of an overnight shoot for the second episode. I took several photos of the set as construction crew raced to finish ahead of the late afternoon start for filming. After the film crew closed the block  to traffic at 3 p.m., the rainy, overcast weather made it difficult to see anything, even before nightfall. A smaller crew shot some scenes on Saturday afternoon using a miniature helicopter camera.
