World of Warcraft mega-movie adaption Warcraft is expected to start filming on January 20th in Vancouver, with the production codename Lost in Gastown. The Game of Thrones meets Avatar style-movie will be a mix of live-action and computer-generated imagery (CGI) and is expected tell the story of the initial meeting of humans and orcs in Azeroth, with sword-wielding human hero Anduin Lothar and hammer-wielding Orc hero Durtan as the central characters.
Clancy Brown (Sleepy Hollow), Dominic Cooper (Captain America: First Avenger), Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Toby Kebbell (RocknRolla) and Daniel Wu (Hong Kong movie star) have been cast as humans or orcs so far. And Paula Patton (Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol) returns to Vancouver to play a strong female character in the fantasy adventure saga.
Director Duncan Jones and his creative team unveiled four examples of concept art at Buzz Con in early November. Hopefully some of the live-action scenes from this popular video game will be filmed on location in and around Vancouver.
Warcraft is expected in theatres in March 2016.
