WRAP: FIFTY SHADES OF GREY Wraps Two-Plus Months of Filming in Vancouver

50 Shades Wrap

Fifty Shades of Grey wrapped today after two-plus months on location in Vancouver. Fifty Shades of Grey author E. L. James and movie director Sam Taylor-Johnson shared this photo of an after-wrap celebration drink in studio. Producer Dana Brunetti did one better on Thursday by sharing a photo of star Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) wearing a Freddy’s BBQ Joint t-shirt from Brunetti’s other production, House of Cards. On Wednesday, Fifty Shades of Grey filmed Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Ana Steele (Dakota Johnson) getting in and out of his Audi R8 Spyder in the Jameson House parkade downtown. If I’d known Christian Grey’s Audi would be parked outside on West Hastings Street before the shoot, I would have swung by. Click on the image to go to kaclark8’s Instagram. You can see part of the Audi R8 Spyder with the Washington 412 – DAO license plate on the right.

Fifty Shades of Grey had more romance and more public filming than most of us expected for a story about a man courting a young woman to become his S&M submissive. I really enjoyed seeing the scorching yet sweet chemistry between leads Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson and the locations the film used for places in the book: like the Bentall 5 tower downtown as Seattle’s Grey Enterprises Holdings Inc; Ladner Village Hardware as Portland’s Clayton’s,  the Hotel Vancouver as Portland’s the Heathman,  the University of British Columbia as Washington State University-Vancouver, Casa Mia as the Grey family mansion, Gastown as Portland and Seattle and so many more. I will put together a wrapup piece on Fifty Shades in Vancouver soon . . . with special mention of the Greens Department responsible for zip-tying all those fake leaves to bare winter trees . . . but not tonight.
