Is The Age of Adaline’s Adaline (Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively) crying in her 1940s car? That’s what it looked like from the Main Mall at the University of British Columbia last night. Born in the early 1900s, Adaline is blessed with eternal youth after a near-fatal accident. Our heroine embarks on a solitary, world journey through the 20th century never aging beyond twenty-nine years until she falls in love with a young man (Game of Thrones’s Michiel Huisman) who might be worth losing her immortality to. Age of Adaline filmed a wedding a few weeks ago at St. Andrew’s Wesley church in downtown Vancouver. Why would Adaline cry? Perhaps because everyone she loves is aging and dying like her husband while she remains the same. Harrison Ford plays [an old flame of hers (literally)].Adaline’s. And Ellen Burstyn is Adaline’s 80-something daughter.
Students used the lit-up-by-Age-of-Adaline Main Mall to play football and Frisbee late Friday night while others took turns posing inside or outside the vintage cars parked on Agricultural Road. Some even paused to watch the shoot: “Who’s filming? Blake Lively from Gossip Girl. Ooh. I love her. Have you seen her? Where is she? She’s in the car.” Crew came up at one point to admonish us for making so much noise, scattering the spectators like pigeons in a square. Sometime after midnight the action moved up to the CHEM Building where a rain tower had been tested earlier to spectacular effect.
The Age of Adaline is expected to film in and around Vancouver until early May.
