Remember the big Gracepoint photo shoot at Victoria’s Island View Beach in early May? FOX released some of the promotional stills last weekend for the Television Critics Association summer press tour. Broadchurch–inspired series Gracepoint is about a young boy Danny Solano found dead on Gracepoint Beach below a cliff-face, with everyone in the small northern California town a suspect. The murder turns neighbour against neighbour and sparks a national media feeding frenzy with Detectives Emmett Carver (Doctor Who/Broadchurch’s David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn) under scrutiny as well. Above is a great moody shot of the detectives with all the suspects in Danny’s death standing behind the yellow crime scene tape. Only kayak rental owner Jack Reinhold (Nick Nolte) and Rev. Paul Coates (Kevin Rankin) had to be added digitally.
Gracepoint pays homage to the original British series, showrunners Dan Futterman and Carolyn Bernstein told the TCA crowd, with the first two episodes matching Broadchurch almost shot for shot. But by the third or fourth episode the mystery starts to diverge and ends up with a different killer. No one should be ruled out as a suspect.
