Vancouver’s homegrown sci-fi series Continuum will film a fourth and final season of six episodes here next Spring, which will air later in 2015 on Showcase in Canada and Syfy in the U.S.
Continuum launched in the Spring of 2012 as a part sci-fi, part police procedural series about a future police officer Kiera Cameron, played by Rachel Nichols, who travels back in time from Vancouver in the year 2077 to Vancouver in the year 2012, chasing a group of terrorists called Liber8 who plan to change the future from the past by targeting the corporations that will come to rule the world. But are they really terrorists? Perhaps they are freedom fighters? Over three seasons, Kiera Cameron slowly adjusted her moral compass and came to realize that “perhaps her beloved future is not a great future after all” and not one worth protecting.
Continuum creator Simon Davis Barry conceived of a dystopian corporation-controlled future by reading and watching the news. In the third season, that bleak future unravelled into a potentially worse one, as Kiera and fellow displaced time-traveller Brad (Ryan Robbins) watch all the lights go out in present-day Vancouver and weapons-carrying figures burst through the time continuum. “What do we do now?” says Kiera. “Run!” advises Brad.
