Breaking Bad’s uber-villain Giancarlo Esposito is directing his first feature film — the satirical drama This is Your Death — in Vancouver. It stars Josh Duhamel (Transformers) as the host of a reality show whose audience tunes in to watch the contestants die. Famke Janssen (X-Men) is his network boss who encourages the host to goose the ratings in any way he can. Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead) is one of the doomed contestants and James Franco has an undisclosed role too.
This higher-stakes version of Survivor has been shooting in a CBC Vancouver studio and filmed outside last night in the CBC Plaza for several scenes of the host (Josh Duhamel) and paramedics bringing out a contestant (Sarah Wayne Callies) and loading her into an ambulance while This is Your Death fans cheer and take photos. Giancarlo Esposito not only directed last night he appeared in a scene as one of the doomed contestants. I have no context for Esposito’s bathrobe, shorts and open-toed sandals except his film is set in Los Angeles in warm weather not Vancouver in chilly November.
