The Good Doctor returns to Vancouver this summer.

Filming of the second season starts June 27th in metro Vancouver, with Freddie Highmore back as the autistic and brilliant Dr. Shaun Murphy.

The Good Doctor was a Top Ten hit in its freshman season, ranking #7 in total viewers with an average audience of 15.6 million viewers and #9 in the coveted 18-49 demo with 3.2.

It was ABC’s biggest hit until the Roseanne revival premiered this year.

Roseanne Barr introduced Disney-ABC Television Group President Ben Sherwood at the New York City upfront earlier this month.

And Freddie Highmore introduced ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey, noting he wasn’t big enough last year to appear on the Upfront stage “so times really have changed.”

Nicholas Gonzalez (Shaun’s boss Dr. Melendez), Richard Schiff (Shaun’s father figure Dr. Aaron Glassman) and Hil Harper (Dr. Marcus Andrews) joined Freddie Highmore at the Upfront.

Who else is coming back on the show?

Antonia Thomas as Dr. Clair Browne. Will update others when confirmed.

Chuku Modu won’t be returning. His character Dr. Jared Kalu took a job in Denver at the end of season 1.

In metro Vancouver, Surrey City Hall plays exteriors for the San Jose hospital St. Bonaventure and Vancouver Community College on Broadway plays exteriors and interiors.

The Good Doctor season 2 is expected to start filming June 27th and wrap February 12th next year.

Season 2: 18 episodes.
