UPFRONTS: SNOWPIERCER Renewed For Season 2 Before Its Premiere Next Spring

Snowpiercer Season 2

Fight your way to the front.

Snowpiercer got a very early renewal today. The 10-episode series, starring Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs, is renewed for season 2, long before it premieres next Spring on TBS.

Originally developed for TNT, the show will now air on the bigger TBS network.

TBS gave ad-buyers a look at the series at today’s Upfronts in New York City.

Inspired by Bong Joon Ho’s futuristic 2013 thriller with Chris Evans, the Snowpiercer series takes place seven years after a post-apocalyptic Ice Age — the Freeze– aboard a perpetual moving train, which holds the remnants of humanity.

Cast: Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand and Jaylin Fletcher. Rowan Blanchard will be a series regular in season two.

Showrunner: Graeme Manson (Orphan Black).

Snowpiercer season 1 filmed in Vancouver from August to late December last year.

In Snowpiercer, there is a caste system on the train with the rich at the front and the poor at the tail end:

Jennifer Connelly is Melanie Cavill at the Front, working as the Voice of the Train and lives in first-class.

Daveed Diggs is a prisoner named Andre Layton at the Tail end who becomes a reluctant participant in a mystery that rocks the train’s status quo.

Alison Wright is Ruth Wardle, second in command to Head of Hospitality Melanie Cavill (Connelly) and dedicated enforcer of the Order that defines the train’s class system.

Mickey Sumner is brakeman Bess Till, part of the train’s security force.

Jaylin Fletcher is Miles, one of the few children in the Tail and smart enough to move forward as an apprentice.

Iddo Goldberg is Bennett, an engineer who designed the train and knows its secrets

The TBS/TNT Upfronts are on Wednesday, May 15th, in New York City.
