BIG MOVIE: G.I. Joe Spinoff SNAKE EYES Has Built Its Own Highway in Vancouver

Snake Eyes — with Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding as the ninja commando — is a big movie.

How big? It has built its own highway in Fort Langley.

This probably ties into the motorcycle chase overnight tonight and Friday night on the downtown Vancouver waterfront.

Working title: Grackle Bird.

Filming dates: October 15th to December 6th.

In the G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes, the future commando (Henry Golding) seeks revenge for his father’s death by joining a ninja clan and finds acceptance there. Eventually he becomes the most popular member of the G.I. Joe team, has a special relationship with Scarlett (Samara Weaving), the female member of the team, and a constant companion in his wolf Timber. But he also has an arch enemy in his ninja blood brother Storm Shadow.

Boss Logic

Snake Eyes has been filming all over Vancouver but was first spotted at Canfisco on Waterfront.

Snake Eyes was spotted next on the trails of Robert Burnaby Park.

Vancouver crew knew it was coming.

The first G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra featured Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid, Marlon Wayans, Rachel Nichols, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sienna Miller. Produced for about $75 million it had a  worldwide box office of $300 million.

The second movie in the G.I. Joe franchise — G.I. Joe: Retaliation — had Bruce Willis, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Lee Byung-hun and Ray Stevenson, with Channing Tatum in a brief role. The film brought in $375 million on a budget of $130 million.

It featured an aerial  battle between Snake Eyes and the ninjas of his arch enemy Storm Shadow, who happens to be Snake Eyes’ blood brother.
