Supergirl
Updated with cast statements:
Supergirl will end with upcoming season 6.
The original trio — Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh & David Harewood — paid tribute to what will be six seasons together.
Melissa Benoist:
To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless.
She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful.
I’m so excited that we get to plan our conclusion to this amazing journey, and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we’re going to make it one helluva final season. ♥️ el mayarah 💪 @supergirlcw
Chyler Leigh:
Reposting this golden oldie. I think this was our first day ever working together. I had no idea what I was doing on a comic book show or how I landed the job of a lifetime. I was trying to figure out how to hold my hands on my hips in as authoritative position as I could and would look over at @melissabenoist and @davidharewood and be nothing but inspired to stand taller and believe in myself. Grateful is an understatement for me.
This has not only been the greatest, most challenging (physically and emotionally) project I’ve ever been a part of, I met family I never even knew I had. I met my #soulsister and I met our #spacedad.
And… I met Alex Danvers. She has taught me more about myself than I could’ve imagined. She taught me to be proud of who I am for exactly who I am.
6 seasons is a rare gift in this business. It’s even more rare to absolutely adore and admire and enjoy the people you work with, let alone spend upwards towards 16 hours a day together 😅
But this show for all of us has been a journey much like Kara’s herself. Full of adventure, excitement, love, discovery, risk, and tremendous strength. We’ve leaned on and learned from each other. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t wait for you all to see what happens as we near the end of this season. My many thanks to everyone who has created the beautiful stories we on this show are lucky enough to tell. I will always love our cast and crew. We will always be #strongertogether @supergirlcw #season6 #danverssisters
David Harewood
It’s been my absolute honour to play this character and work alongside these fabulous people this past 6 years. What a joy! As one of the OG’s let me say how much I’ve enjoyed being a part of the #Supergirl journey, it hasn’t always been an easy one but I’m glad you all came along. ‘Thank you so much’ to EVERYONE who supported over the years!
Suit Up for one more round!

Jesse Rath.
As you’ve probably heard, The 6th season of Supergirl will officially be our last. Getting to work on this show and play this character has been nothing short of a dream come true. I’m extremely proud of the show, the work we’ve done and what we’ve been able to accomplish together. We’ve got 20 episodes to end things on our own terms and I’m more excited then ever to get back to work and give you all an amazing final season. Thank you to all our loyal fans for your love and support. “We all live on in the big brain”

Stunts crew.
Season 6 will be 20 episodes, a bigger order than is expected for most broadcast series.
Supergirl starts filming the new season on September 28th in Vancouver, with Covid-19 safety protocols.
Filming dates: September 28th – April 5th, 2021.
Episodes: 20
Cast: Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair with special guest star Jon Cryer.
Melissa Benoist, who is expecting her first child with husband Chris Wood (Supergirl’s Mon-El), is not in Vancouver. Production will work around her until she can join them (Crew did something similar when Benoist starred in Beautiful on Broadway, by shooting episodes out of order and putting Supergirl in an exo suit).
David Harewood has shared snippets of his 14-day quarantine.

Day 3 of quarantine. I’ve been called twice by a government representative. They’ll call again tomorrow. Punishment for not observing quarantine…$3 million dollar fine or a year in prison. https://t.co/UHcPpt86mC

What will you miss about Supergirl?
I’ll miss her friendship with The Flash. Like Melissa Benoist’s real-life friendship with Grant Gustin.
The Flash, Batwoman and new series Superman & Lois are expected to premiere in January 2021 on the CW.
But Supergirl season 6 is being held for the Spring/Summer of next year.

Where did we leave Supergirl?
In the premature season five finale directed by David Harewood, Supergirl teamed up with Lena Luthor to take down Lex and Leviathan.
J’onn J’onzz, while complaining about chafing from Supergirl’s new pants, provided a Supergirl decoy.
While Kara and Lena took the bus across town to Luthor Corp.
David Harewood shows Katie McGrath and pregnant Melissa Benoist what he wants.
Alex debuted her new suit and Ziggy Stardust eye makeup.
Leviathan was defeated when Brainy bottled the immortals, seemingly sacrificing himself to save his friends.
And Lex lived on, of course.
Immortal Kombat was meant to be the second-to-last episode of season five but corona virus fears shut down production of the season finale in mid-March with at least three days of filming left to do. Will season 6 start with what was supposed to be the season 5 finale?
Supergirl season 6 will premiere in the Spring/Summer of 2021 on The CW.
