We say goodbye to John Constantine on tonight’s Legends of Tomorrow.

And in season 7 we’ll say hello to Matt Ryan’s new character Dr. Gwyn Davies, an eccentric early 20th Century scientist.

Matt Ryan talked about the end of his time playing Constantine at Comic Con @ Home.

John is a character throughout all of his comic book history and all the TV parts, [is] someone who always walks alone. He dips into stories, and he dips out of stories. The time for John’s journey with Legends and with me has come to an end. I’m so really excited to be doing another role on this show and creating a new role with everybody, and having some fun with that in a way that I maybe haven’t had with John. So that’s really, really exciting to see what that’s going to be and discovering how this new character fits in and causes some trouble for the Legends. — Matt Ryan.

Former Legend Maisie Richardson-Sellers directed the episode titled: There Will be Brood.

Tala Ashe, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Caity Lotz reunite on set last April.

Season 6 has been building to John Constantine going dark and last week’s episode saw him team up with Bishop or as Matt Ryan put it to TVLine: I would say John and Bishop together, they’re both nasty pieces of work, so there’s going to be some trouble.

Why now?

John Constantine is someone who always walks alone . . . Ultimately, he’s a loner with his guilt and torment that walks this earth alone. There was only so much that we could ever do with him on Legends. — Matt Ryan to TVLine.

The most important thing for me was for him to go out in a way that’s very John Constantine . . .I just didn’t want him to have a happy ending. Don’t give John Constantine a happy ending! No, he’s got to f—k it up — Matt Ryan to TVLine.

Legends of Tomorrow’s season 6 finale airs next Sunday, September 5th, at 8 p.m. on The CW.
