SUPERMAN & LOIS Renewed for Season 4 Of Filming in Vancouver But With Slashed Budget

Congratulations to Superman & Lois — renewed for season 4 of filming in Vancouver. But with a reduced episode count, cast, budget and other concessions to The CW.

Still, it’s one of the last survivors of the great purge at The CW.

Last month The CW’s new Entertainment President Brad Schwartz acknowledged that Superman & Lois is one of the Nextstar-owned network’s “strongest” (#2) performing shows but also its most expensive.

Studio Warner Bros. Television reportedly proposed a reduced licence fee to make the per episode cost palatable to The CW’s new owner Nexstar, which has cancelled most of the original shows and replaced them with cheaper Canadian, UK and Australian imports and unscripted shows.

In order to get the season 4 pickup, Superman & Lois will reduce its episode count from 13 to 10.

And pare down its cast of series regulars from 12 to 5.

Current cast: Tyler Hoechlin, Bitsie Tulloch, Alexander Garfin, Michael Bishop, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Inde Navarrette, Wolé Parks, Tayler Buck, Sofia Hasmik, Erik Valdez, Dylan Walsh, Chad Coleman.

And cut its budget by focusing even more on the family drama and less on the superhero elements which require expensive VFX.

Warner Bros. Television will also concede some library streaming rights to The CW. The show currently streams exclusively on Warner Bros. Discovery’s recently renamed Max channel in the U.S.

Superman & Lois films in Vancouver with two major permanent sets: the Kent Farm in Ladner and the Smalville set in Cloverdale.

Showrunners: Todd Helbing, Brent Fletcher.

Producers: Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television.

Superman & Lois’s season 3 finale airs Tuesday, June 27th, on The CW.
