Hollywood Studios/Streamers Offered Striking Writers Counter-Proposal

Is a deal with striking Hollywood writers in the works for the Fall?

The 8 negotiating studios/streamers of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) brought a counter-proposal to the Writers Guild of America last Friday, after more than 100 days of strike action.

The counter-proposal reportedly aligns more closely with the writers’ demands — making concessions on the sharing of streaming viewer data which could lead to a success metric and making assurances to the writers that generative artificial intelligence (AI) will not replace them, according to Bloomberg.

The counter-proposal reportedly also gives showrunners latitude in setting the size of their TV writing staff, according to Variety.

The Writers Guild of America negotiators have not responded to the counter-proposal yet, but the two sides are expected to meet again this week.

The 8 members of the AMPTP are Netflix, Disney-ABC, NBC Universal, Paramount-CBS, Warner Bros Discovery, Amazon, Apple, Sony.

The WGA has been on strike since May 2nd and SAG-AFTRA since July 14th.
