Half-finished Deadpool 3, reuniting Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, won’t make its start-of-summer theatrical release date — May 3, 2024 — due to the no-end-in-sight production shutdown.

The long-awaited Deadpool 3 filmed in London, UK, from late May until mid-July when the American Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFRTA) went on strike against the studios and streamers of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
Ryan Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively were among a dozen celebrity actors who contributed $1 million to the SAG Foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Program to help their fellow performers during the strike.
The couple kept busy throughout the summer and into the Fall, recently supporting their friend Taylor Swift at the New York Jets versus the Kansas City Chiefs football game on October 1st: with Blake Lively and the Deadpool trio — Ryan Reynolds, newly single Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy –helping to cheer on Swift’s new boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to a win.
The next day, the Deadpool trio had cause for optimism about finishing their movie when talks between SAG negotiators and the struck companies (Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBC Universal, Sony, Amazon and Apple) resumed after two-and-half-months of silence.
Unfortunately, those talks broke down again the following week and there’s no end in sight for the SAG strike. Deadpool 3 is one of many tentpole movies expected to vacate release dates.
Unfinished Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two (release date: June 28, 2024 ) Gladiator 2 (November 22, 2024) and Broadway musical adaption Wicked (November 27, 2024) may be next.
What’s Deadpool 3 about?
Another chapter in the raunchy, violent, and of course, hilarious Deadpool series. Deadpool 3 will be a direct follow-up to Deadpool 2. Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), using Cable’s time machine will travel to save Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) from dying. Logan does not know who that guy is and wants him gone but using a time machine and changing history will get them on the TVA’s radar.
Deadpool 3 is the first Deadpool movie under the banner of Disney’s Marvel Studios and its boss Kevin Feige. The first two Deadpools filmed in Vancouver.
