VIRGIN RIVER Ends SUITS’ 12-Week Summer Reign Atop U.S. Streaming Charts

Congratulations to Virgin River on ending Suits’ 12-week summer reign atop the Nielsen streaming charts.

From June 19th to September 10th, Suits racked up 12 consecutive weeks of #1 rankings on Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming Programs –the most of any streaming program to date.

That ended in the September 11th to 17th week, when Virgin River ranked #1 with 2.054 billion minutes viewed and Suits dropped to #2 with 1.9 billion minutes viewed.

September 11th to 17th.

The week before, when Virgin River season 5 started streaming, the reverse was true. Suits held on to #1 with 2.350 billion minutes viewed and Suits re-joined the chart at #2 with 1.922 minutes viewed.

September 4th to September 10th.

The BC-filmed Virgin River is a popular romance on Netflix starring Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson.

Based on the novels by Robyn Carr, Virgin River follows Melinda “Mel” Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse and midwife who moves to the small California town from Los Angeles after her husband Mark dies.

There she falls for restaurant/bar owner and former marine Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson). Season 5 starts with Mel and Jack in a good place — engaged and expecting a baby — but Mel miscarries after a wildfire threatens the town.

We’ll know more after the two season 5 holiday episodes drop on November 30th, with Virgin River celebrating Christmas with a tree-decorating contest and Mel searching for her biological father in town.
