HBO’s smash hit The Last of Us casts acclaimed young performer Kaitlyn Dever as a season 2 central character Abigail “Abby” Anderson, joining Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie Williams in the video game adaption.
The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed by a fungal pandemic. Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle teen Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Season One left us with Joel and Ellie heading back to Jackson, Wyoming, a thriving community of survivors from the fungal pandemic.
Official character description: Abby is a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.
Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material. Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro [Pascal], Bella [Ramsey] and the rest of our family. — The Last of Us showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann in a joint statement.
Kaitlyn Dever is best known for her roles in Unbelievable, Book Smart and Dopesick.
In the Naughty Dog videogame Abby is part of a Seattle militia group called the Washington Liberation Front (WLF) known as the Wolves.
