Apple TV+’s new Firebug series, starring Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett, starts filming in Vancouver.
Firebug follows a troubled detective (Jurnee Smollett) and an enigmatic arson investigator (Taron Egerton) as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists in the Pacific Northwest.
Firebug is inspired by the Firebug podcast which told the story of the real-life California arson investigator turned serial arsonist, John Leonard Orr. The former firefighter became an arson investigator for the Glendale Fire Department in southern California. Hired to track down cases of arson, he became the serial arsonist he claimed to be hunting, responsible for setting a series of big fires during the 1980s and 1990s that resulted in tens of millions of dollars of damage and four deaths.
Firebug is developed, written and executive-produced by acclaimed novelist Denis Lehane, author of crime novels Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and Shutter Island, among others.
