Season 2 of HBO’s smash hit series The Last of Us picked Nanaimo on Vancouver Island to play the overgrown and abandoned Seattle neighbourhood of Capitol Hill that we know from the video game.
After weeks of prep, Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Isabela Merced’ as Dina spent two days (May 13th & 14th) filming their ride down Skinner Street onto Commercial Street at the Diana Krall Plaza.
Spectators caught glimpses of the pair at the start of their ride at Skinner and Bastion Streets.
Waiting with the horse trainer on Skinner Street while the camera is reset.
But only a local living above Commercial Street could capture the big scene on video.

The overgrown tank from the game is further down the street.
The Nanaimo shoot is now over after weeks of prep, only two days of filming and a few more of cleanup. Businesses on Skinner and Commercial Streets reopened this morning.
