The Casket Girls is inspired by the true story of 1700s brides in French-Catholic New Orleans, so-called because they arrived from France with “caskets” of their belongings. Blamed for rising homicide rates and thought to be demons or vampires, the young women ended up imprisoned in the Ursuline Convent behind an impenetrable door and windows bolted shut.
