What’s the remake about?
A gay Korean graduate student, working on his Masters of Fine Arts, needs to marry in order to get his green card in this Seattle remake directed by Andrew Ahn.
When graduate student Min (Han Gi Chan)’s boyfriend Chris (Bowen Yang) rejects his spontaneous marriage proposal, Min convinces his best friend Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) to marry him in his stead, paying for her partner Liz’(Lily Gladstone)’s IVF treatments in exchange for his green card.

Min and Angela’s plans for a subtle city hall elopement are turned upside down when Min’s grandmother (Pachinko’s Youn Yuh-jung) travels to Seattle to throw them an extravagant Korean wedding banquet.
In the Manhattan-set original directed by Ang Lee, a gay Taiwanese landlord and a female tenant agree to a marriage of convenience to deflect his parents and get her a green card. Then his parents arrive to visit and things get out of hand.
