Season 2 of HBO’s smash hit video game adaption of The Last of Us premiered tonight with an expanded world.
Five years after the events in Salt Lake city, a now 19-year-old Ellie makes a discovery while on patrol with her best friend Dina. Back in Jackson Hole, Joel seeks help to mend his relationship with Ellie.
Here are some of the British Columbia filming locations for Future Days– from the massive Jackson set built on an old gravel pit at Minaty Bay on the Sea to Sky Highway to the Greenplace Market set built in Kamloops and the exterior of the church in North Vancouver for the New Year’s dance..
Season 2 picks up five years after the events of season one, which chronicled Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey)’s trek across a post-apocalyptic, pandemic-scarred America. They are settled in the Jackson commune run by Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) and sister-in-law Maria (Rutina Wesley).
Production moved from Alberta to British Columbia for season 2 and built a massive Jackson set at Minaty Bay on the Sea to Sky Highway.
Jackson set in Minaty Bay:

The finished set is the equivalent of two full city blocks with cross streets, including the wall, gate and 45 buildings built to various levels of internal finish, reports Vulture..

Monday ([February 17th) was sunny on set like the photo above but on “Tuesday night it snowed like mad for a bit and they were out filming in it”, according to a local The Last of Us fan on Reddit

One of the townsfolk Seth takes offence at the same-sex kiss and Joel intervenes. Ellie is furious — “I don’t need your f*ckin’ help”.
This reveals the deep tension between Ellie and Joel, who’s still grappling with the actions he took to save Ellie’s life on that Firefly hospital bed in the season one finale. It’s during this time that Abby Anderson arrives.
