Kaitlyn Dever heads to Vancouver in a few days to start prep on season 3 of HBO’s popular video game adaption of The Last of Us, with her Washington Liberation Front (WLF) leader Abby as the main character.
I’m getting mentally and physically prepped right now. I go up in a couple days, actually, to start prep over there. I’m so excited to kind of take on a much bigger role in the season — Kaitlyn Dever to Deadline: Hollywood.
The Last of Us takes place 20+ years after modern civilization has been destroyed by the Cordyceps fungal pandemic.
In season one, Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor, was hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What started as a small job soon became a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they traversed the U.S. and depended on each other for survival.
Season 2 picked up five years after the events of the first season, with Joel and Ellie living in Jackson, Wyoming but estranged by a lie. Joel’s brutal death at the hands of former Firefly Abby sent Ellie to Seattle on a path of vengeance against Abby and her WLF crew.
Season 3 will change perspective, following Abby on her journey to a confrontation with Ellie.

The fans are really going to like it, I think, the shifting perspective onto Abby, getting some more context onto her storyline and going back in time with this season. — — Kaitlyn Dever to Deadline: Hollywood.
But there is a recasting. One of Abby’s crew Manny Alverez has to be recast because Danny Ramirez had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict.
