Season 8 of Netflix’s popular romance Virgin River, which will see Mel and Jack as new parents to their adopted baby son, begins production this April in Vancouver, British Columbia.
What’s Virgin River about?
Netflix’s longest-running scripted series follows Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse and midwife who moves to the small California town Virgin River from Los Angeles, after her husband Mark dies. There she falls for restaurant/bar owner and former marine Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) and after a lot of complications the pair got married in season 6 and adopted a baby in season 7.
How did Season 7 end?
After Marley gives birth in Los Angeles, Mel and Jack and their newborn son with a heart issue get into an ambulance to drive to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where Mel’s ex, Eli (Austin Nichols) is a leading paediatric cardiothoracic surgeon. Season 8 will follow Mel and Jack’s joy and stress at being new parents to a child with a serious health issue.
The Brody-Brie-Mike love triangle is no more. Brie (Zibby Allen) rejected Mike (Marco Grazzini)’s marriage proposal early in season 7 but it took the rest of the season for her to get back together with Brody (Benjamin Hollingsworth) and go public with the relationship. Mike decides to leave Virgin River and his former colleague and rebound romance Victoria (Sara Canning) goes with him. Finally things eem to be going Brody’s way but then he crashes his motorcycle and hits the pavement.. Is he dead or alive? We’ll find out in season 8.
Jack’s ex Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) is leaving Virgin River too. Accused of killing Calvin, the biological father of her twins, at the beginning of season 7, it turns out Calvin was trying to take the boys away from Charmaine at gunpoint when Grant (Alessandro Juliani) stepped in, grabbed Calvin’s gun and shot him dead.
Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) split up again at the end of season 7.. Hope kicked Doc out of the house after a big argument over his decision to partner with a mobile hospital to modernize patient care which Hope views as a betrayal after she collected signatures at Founder’s Day to stop outside businesses from setting up in Virgin River. Will they find their way back to each other in season 8?
Jack bought out Preacher (Colin Lawrence)’s share of the Bar so that Preacher cauld open a restaurant.
Cody Kearsley will return as Jack’s ranch hand Clay.

Virgin River constructed Mel & Jack’s new barn and house sets to the east of north Langley’s Blieberger Farm, which played Lilly’s farmhouse.
