Mike Flanagan is producing Alexandra Magistro’s psychological thriller and body horror film Rot, starring Monster’s Cooper Koch, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard, filming in Vancouve this Fall.
Marshall (Cooper Koch), a lonely 29-year-old construction worker, remains scarred by a childhood spent with his widowed, hoarder mother and the classmates who ostracized him. After a workplace accident costs him his job, his building superintendent, Keith (Matthew Lillard), recruits him to clean homes where people have died. As he confronts the clutter left by strangers who died alone, Marshall finds unexpected catharsis in work that recalls his mother’s house.
Meanwhile, he pursues Liv (Amber Midthunder) , a sandwich shop employee whose secret OnlyFans account emboldens him to ask her out. Their relationship becomes his first sexual experience, with Liv taking a dominant role that Marshall eagerly embraces.
But when a lonely female neighbor dies in an accident, cleaning her apartment triggers an unsettling identification with his mother. As buried trauma overwhelms him, Marshall begins losing his grip on reality. Liv’s subsequent rejection deepens his collapse, leaving him spiraling toward self-destruction as the fragile connections sustaining him fall apart.
