Filmmaker Andrew Haight’s A Long Winter, starring Fred Hechinger, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Caitríona Balfe, gets its Canadian premiere at TIFF, after glowing reviews at the Telluride Film Festival.
A Long Winter sees Louise (Caitríona Balfe), the mother of Mike (Fred Hechinger) and Tommy (Kit Connor) take off after a quarrel with her husband Lester (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) into the first snowstorm of the season.

A Long Winter was shot in the Alberta Rockies in the Fall of 2025.
Adapted from Irish writer Colm Tóibín’s novella, the film changed the setting of the story from Spain in the 1930s to Colorado in the 1950s.
