SHOOT: Welcome To Storybrooke aka Steveston for ONCE UPON A TIME 2×17

Oh you’re an outsider. Not that welcome then. In the first six weeks of Regina’s curse in 1983, New Jersey intruders Kurt Flyn (John Pyper-Ferguson) and his son end up in what is supposed to be undetectable Storybrooke, Maine.

That explains the high speed car chase on two blocks of Moncton Street in Steveston in late January. Once Upon a Time paid the business on both sides of those blocks to close for the day out of safety concerns. And hired 35 PAs (production assistants) to keep people back for flashbacks of Sheriff Graham (Jamie Dornan) and Regina (Lana Parrilla) in a high-speed chase of the intruders. Crew alternated scenes of stunt doubles driving fast in the Storybrooke Sheriff’s car and cast driving slowly in it down Moncton Street. At mid-morning, Once Upon a Time opened up the grassy park at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery (dressed as the Storybrooke Cannery) where people could watch the high-speed chase below from a safe distance.

SHOOT: Meghan Ory & Ginnifer Goodwin Film ONCE UPON A TIME 2×17 Storybrooke Flashbacks in Steveston

Ruby, you tramp! Ruby/Little Red (Meghan Ory of the impossibly long legs) filmed a Storybrooke flashback scene to 1983 at Granny’s Diner in Steveston yesterday. I couldn’t believe what she was wearing. And how meek and mild our badass Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) looked as early Mary Margaret. They’ve both come a long way since the curse broke and they remembered their fairy tale selves. Mary Margaret appeared to accidentally bump into Regina (Lana Parrilla) outside Granny’s Diner and apologize for it. Oh Mary Margaret, she’s evil. Archie (Raphael Sbarge), Pongo and Granny (Beverley Elliott) were in the scene too. And some Once Upon a Time fans up from Florida spotted the Man who owns Storybrooke, aka Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle), earlier in the day, but there was no sign of David/Charming (Josh Dallas) on set of course —  unless they filmed his poor nameless coma patient in hospital.

NOTE: Because these are flashbacks I’m not withholding the photos but normally my policy is to hold onto major spoilers until they become mild to medium.

SHOOT: Charming Family Reunion in ONCE UPON A TIME Mid-Season Finale, 2×10

It was such a cold, wet October day in Steveston south of Vancouver when Once Upon a Time filmed the happy family reunion of Ginnifer Goodwin’s Snow, Josh Dallas’s Charming, Jennifer Morrison’s Emma and Jared Gilmore’s Henry walking arms round one another past the Storybrooke Library for tonight’s mid-season finale. But there was so much joy. I laughed when I saw Goodwin coming out of the cast van wearing an old-fashioned rain bonnet to protect her Mary Margaret pixie cut. Only Goodwin could look cute in one of these. And when Goodwin walked back from one of the takes with her arms outstretched like a monster.

But it’s been a long wait for this reunion scene to appear on screen. So it’s a bonus to have our season two villains, Barbara Hershey’s Cora and Colin O’Donoughe’s Hook, heading into Storybrooke on his pirate ship in the final scene. I photographed this dastardly pair disembarking from the ship at Steveston’s Britannia Shipyards a few weeks before Once Upon a Time filmed the reunion scene. Storybrooke is going to be one busy place in the new year.
