SHOOT: THE KILLING’s Joel Kinnaman & Jewel Staite at Vancouver Public Library

Holder has a girlfriend. And she’s sticking around. The Killing filmed scenes on Wednesday of detective Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman in his Holder hoodie) meeting his season three Assistant District Attorney girlfriend Caroline (Jewel Staite) on the level five walkway of the Vancouver Public Library’s curtain wall. He waits for her on a bench, approaches her and they have looooong talk with lots of endearing Holderisms I’m sure, because he’s smiling and at one point hugs her and then later kisses her. Best moment from this couple so far: Holder’s “hot” tat Serenity, a nod to Jewel Staite’s role on the Joss Whedon space western Firefly.

SHOOT: KING & MAXWELL’s Rebecca Romijn Apprehends a Suspect Near CIBC Tower

King & Maxwell is about Washington, D.C. secret-service-agents-turned-private investigators Sean King (Jon Tenney) and Michelle Maxwell (Rebecca Romijn of The X-Men fame), based on the David Baldacci books. It debuted Monday night on TNT while King & Maxwell was shooting  scenes in downtown Vancouver. This one took place in a laneway near the CIBC tower. After three to four hours of  filming a foot chase sequence along both sides of the 800/900 blocks of West Hasting, former American Olympic athlete Maxwell (Romijn) finally nabbed her suspect (The Killing’s Goldie, aka Brendan Fletcher). King (Tenney) catches up after she’s grabbed him, pulled out his wallet and checked for ID. And then cracked up laughing after the shot. King & Maxwell is one of the most laidback cast and crews around town.

SHOOT: Jon Tenney & Rebecca Romijn Film KING & MAXWELL Outside Terminal City Club – Updated

King & Maxwell debuts on TNT tonight. And today’s shoot in downtown Vancouver couldn’t have been more public or open. To transform the 800 block of  West Hastings into Washington, D.C., crew changed signage, parked yellow Dulle International Airport cabs outside the Terminal City Club and dotted both sidewalks with well-dressed backgrounders for scenes of secret-service-agents-turned-private-investigators Sean King (Jon Tenney) and Michelle Maxwell (Rebecca Romijn) in a foot chase filmed by a camera on a golf cart. It took place on both sides of West Hastings and ended in an alley east of the CIBC Tower. I only caught two running takes. The first with both King and Maxwell, where former Olympic athlete Maxwell (Romijn) outruns her partner (Tenney), and the second with King on his own.

Run King & Maxwell Run!

SHOOT: Amanda Tapping Directs CONTINUUM in Arch Alley Downtown – Part 2

It’s Amanda Tapping week: Guest star on Wednesday night’s season finale of CW hit Supernatural and Thursday night’s season finale of Vancouver whydunit hit Motive. And directing the current episode of Vancouver-cop-from-the-future series hit Continuum.

Are there zombies in this episode? Here is Amanda Tapping directing Victor Webster as Detective Carlos Fonnegra  yesterday looking at corpse in the trunk of a car parked in the gravel lot off Arch Alley. Or as Webster tweeted: “I’m examining a decomposing corpse covered in maggots in an alley full of garbage and grafitti. What did you do today?” The makeup actually seems more  like The Walking Dead than Continuum. [Update: But this is no anonymous corpse. Is that Kiera’s frenemy CSIS agent Gardiner (Nicholas Lea) under that makeup?]

SHOOT: ARROW’s Archer Showdown on Hudson’s Bay Roof for Tonight’s Season Finale

Two Men. Two Bows. One Roof.

Emerald Archer vs Dark Archer for the season finale.

A late April rehearsal of Hudson’s Bay rooftop fight scene at dusk in downtown Vancouver, part of Arrow’s final shoot of the season.

Arrow has been building to the ultimate showdown between Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman)’s alter egos for much of the season. Is this it? If so, who will be victorious? It didn’t look good for The Hood from my vantage high above in the Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Centre (often featured in Arrow cityscapes).

Update: The slumped figure near the open door  turns out be Diggle (David Ramsey) in the season finale.

Rehearsing catching one of the Hood’s arrows.

GREEN LIT: FOX Orders Joel Wyman’s ALMOST HUMAN (formerly Human) to Series

Who is the human? And who is the android?

Karl Urban & Michael Ealy. ©2013 FOX BROADCASTING CO.

Human John Kennex (Karl Urban of Star Trek) and android Dorian (Michael Ealy) are police partners investigating crimes in Los Angeles 35 years from now. But in this partnership, the android displays more emotions than the human because John is shut down after getting seriously hurt on a mission. From J.J. Abrams and former Fringe showrunner Joel Wyman, this new series pays homage to Fringe in so many ways. The production used many of the former Vancouver Fringe crew as well as its production signs BELLY. Some of the set dressing looked familiar too, with futuristic kiosks like Quick Volt electric car stations and Quick Stands offering everything from Experience Enhancers to Intellect Expanders and Synthetic Pets on set. Almost Human filmed for three weeks in the Vancouver area in familiar Fringe locations from the downtown business district to Gastown’s Winters Hotel to under the Cambie Bridge to the Terminal City Ironworks complex dressed like a Blue Light district.

SHOOT: Goran Visnjic & Erin Moriarty Film RED WIDOW Finale at Guiness Tower

Update May 10, 2013 – ABC cancelled this limited series so last Sunday’s season finale is the series ender.

So it wasn’t Nicholae Schiller (Goran Visnjic) who made Marta Walraven (Radha Mitchell) a Red Widow by killing her husband. It was her cold, cruel, ruthless father who couldn’t stand the idea of losing his grandkids. But the grandkids don’t know that yet. And so young Natalie (Erin Moriarity) pulls a gun on Schiller as he’s leaving his office, filmed at the Guiness Tower in Vancouver’s Business District, in what turns out to be the final scene of the season finale.

What happens next? That depends on whether this limited series is renewed or not.
