Big American network TV series return to Vancouver this summer, with most scheduled to start filming new seasons this month. Early scripts have been written, standing sets have been unpacked or are under construction in studio, scouts are out looking for Vancouver area filming locations, stunt teams are mapping out sequences, directors are prepping, technical surveys are happening and some cast are in town already for wardrobe fittings and read-throughs.

Filming dates are subject to change but should be within a few days of what’s on the DGC-BC Production List.

July.

Tuesday, July 7th – Supernatural, Season 11:

spn s10 finale darkness

Darkness was coming when we last saw Dean and Sam Winchester (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) trapped inside the  Impala. What will happen? And what are the repercussions of killing Death?. Oh….and will Castiel (Misha Collins) kill King of Hell quipster Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard)? Filming of season 11 (yes season 11!) is scheduled to begin July 7th and wrap April 20th in metro Vancouver. Jensen Ackles flew into Vancouver last week to begin director’s prep for the first filmed episode as he has done in previous seasons. Supernatural airs on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. this Fall on The CW with the season eleven premiere set for October 7th.

The Sunday after production starts, Supernatural returns to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con with an 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. panel featuring cast Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins and Mark A. Sheppard, along with showrunner Jeremy Carver.

Tuesday, July 7th  – The Flash, Season 2:

the flash black hole sized

When we last left The Flash, the scarlet speedster (Grant Gustin) was desperately trying to contain a wormhole above Central City  – without time for him or anyone else to mourn the heroic death of Central City Detective Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett). Reportedly, Eddie’s death does not mean Barry Allen and beloved Iris West (Candace Patton) will meet their destiny. It’s much too soon since Iris loved Eddie. The Flash is casting a new Felicity-type girlfriend Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten) for Allen instead. Jesse L. Martin is expected to return as Central City Detective Joe West and surrogate father to Allen and bioengineering expert Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and fan favourite lab tech whiz Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) are back on Team Flash but what about STAR labs founder Harrison Wells who’s really Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh)?  The Flash season two is expected to start filming July 7th and wrap April 17th in metro Vancouver. And will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. this Fall on The CW with its season premiere set for October 6th.

The Saturday after production starts, The Flash cast and show runners will be part of Super Hero Saturday Night at San Diego Comic Con — 8 to 11 p.m. in Hall H.

Wednesday, July 8th – Once Upon a Time, Season 5:

dark swan e

[Update: Dark Swan has an Emma Swan-befitting dark-leather costume with stiletto boots – see EW exclusive photo — quite different from Rumplestiltskin’s.] Once Upon a Time’s Emma (Jennifer Morrsion) sacrificed herself in the season four finale to become the Dark One. What happens when a saviour goes dark? How bad will she get? Those who love Emma will spend the early part of the season trying to bring her back to the light. Apparently, that will involve finding the great sorcerer Merlin (Elliot Knight) in the court of Camelot with King Arthur (Liam Garrigan), Lancelot (Sinqua Walls) and Guinevere (Joana Metrass). Zelena (Rebecca Mader) and Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) have been upped to series regulars for the season. Filming begins July 8th and is expected to wrap April 1st. Once Upon a Time airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC and CTV this Fall, with the season 5 premiere to air Sunday, September 27th.

Monday, July 13th – Arrow, Season 4:

What will bring back Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) from happiness in the sun with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards)? How will Team Arrow function without them? Well there’s still Diggle (David Ramsey), the new Black Canary (Katie Cassidy) and the new Speedy (Willa Holland). Plus Arrow is casting a black tech whiz who could be Felicity’s replacement (or maybe her counterpart at H.I.V.E.)  But with Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) as the new Ra’s al Ghul, is anyone safe? Arrow season 4 starts filming July 13th and is expected to wrap April 22nd. Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. this Fall on The CW with the season premiere on October 7th.
