REUNITED: DR. HORRIBLE’s Neil Patrick Harris And Nathan Fillion Reunited On A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS Season 2 in Vancouver

Updated:

Dr. Horrible’s Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion have reunited on the set of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 in Vancouver. In Josh Whedon’s 2008 cult classic, Dr. Horrible (Harris) tried to get into the Evil League of Evil by defeating superhero Captain Hammer (Fillion).

Nathan Fillion (Castle) is not the only recognizable addition to the season 2 cast as. Tony Hale (Veep, Arrested Development), Sara Rue (Impastor), Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher) and Roger Bart (Desperate Housewives) have undisclosed roles too.
Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events started filming season 2 in mid-April this year. What’s it about? The Netflix series tells the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) the series stars Emmy and Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf and Patrick Warburton as narrator Lemony Snicket.

The eight-episode first season was executive produced by Emmy Award winner Barry Sonnenfeld and author Daniel Handler. It filmed in Vancouver last Spring and summer, starting in early April and wrapping in August.
The 10-episode second season will do books five through nine, spending two episodes per book for a total of ten episodes. Barry Sonnenfeld returned to direct Book 5: The Austere Academy where the Baudelaire orphans are sent to a boarding school run by monsters with Count Olaf in disguise as a turban-wearing gym teacher called Gengis. That was followed by Book 6: The Ersatz Elevator, where the Baudelaire orphans are sent to live with wealthy Esmé and Jerome Squalor, who reside in a penthouse at 667 Dark Street. Tony Hale is said to be Jerome Squalor. And Count Olaf’s disguise in this book is as Esme’s  auctioneer Gunther. Production then moved on to Book 7: The Vile Village where the Baudelaire orphans are sent into the care of an entire village known as V.F.D., Village of Fowl Devotees, to live with Hector the Handyman.

Count Olaf’s disguise this time is as Detective Dupin with his girlfriend Esme Squalor masquerading as police officer Luciana. They investigate the death of a fake “Count Olaf” — actually Jacques Snicket (Nathan Fillion) — and accuse the Baudelaire orphans of murdering him.

In a talk at  the Vulture Festival in New York last month, Neil Patrick Harris spoke of filming season 2 in Vancouver. At the time, his family remained in New York so he was on his own here getting up at 4:30 a.m. to do prosthetic stuff and makeup. Other inconveniences: he had to grow his nails. “Hence the ridiculous nails. I’m growing my nails out. ….They’re just gnarly….It’s hard to text.”

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 & 3 started filming April 17th in metro Vancouver and are expected to wrap April 20th next year (date subject to change).
