Family time-twister The Way Home, starring Chyler Leigh, Andie MacDowell and Sadie Laflamme-Snow, gets a season 3 renewal from the Hallmark Channel.
Divorced journalist Kat Landry (Chyler Leigh) and her teen daughter Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) return home to Port Haven, New Brunswick, to live with Kat’s estranged mother Del (Andie Macdowell) on the family farm with a mysterious time-travelling pond.
After season one, Kat Landry adds another time-travelling destination for season 2 — 1814 Port Haven.
This is where Kat hopes to find her younger brother Jacob, who went missing as a boy in 1999 Port Haven, but unbeknownst to the family fell into the pond and was transported into the distant past.
Kat time travels back and forth through the pond to look for Jacob in 1814 Port Haven where she thinks he ended up.. On her first trip she is accidentally shot by Thomas Coyle (Kris Holden-Reid) and taken to the town’s healer Susanna Augustine (Watson Rose) ,who tells her that Jacob lives on the Landry farm. But it turns out Elijah Landry and his late wife Rebecca took in Jacob when he arrived in 1790 and raised him as their second son. Jacob is no longer a boy; he is engaged to Susanna and away on a ship.
In episode 5., Kat first sees adult Jacob (Spencer Macpherson) as he returns to 1814 Port Haven on a boat but before they can reunite soldiers storm the beach and arrest Jacob.
In episode 6, Thomas, Susana and Kat rescue Jacob, who is being held by the town’s Mayor Cyrus Goodman at his estate. They find Jacob badly whipped and beaten in a cell in the smuggler tunnels beneath the estate. Kat offers to be a decoy and Cyrus’s men chase the “Woman in White” to the pond. Kat jumps in, bringing us full circle to the Woman in White of the series premiere.
In episode 7, Kat tries to return to 1814 Port Haven with medicine for the badly-injured Jacob, but the medicine doesn’t come with her. Thomas and Susanna have hidden Jacob in the cellar of the Port Haven Lighthouse, where he drifts in and out of consciousness. Kat learns that adult Jacob is the one who devised the plan to skim rum from the British shipments.
In episode 8, a recovering Jacob sits on the shore and tells Kat how he blocked out memory of his real family so that he could survive in the past. Thomas and Susana approach and tell Jacob that Cyrus’s men are still looking for him and he needs to get back inside the Lighthouse.. Kat tells him she’ll be back soon, adding “See you later alligator” like she used to tell young Jacob
